Only The Poor Shop At Thrift Stores?

Only The Poor Shop At Thrift Stores?

Someone told me that "only poor people shop at thrift stores"  I looked at her like she was crazy because there are many wealthy people who shop at thrift stores.  Rich people stay rich by saving and cutting corners in other areas.  Of course, they can afford to buy new but why should they?  People have this idea that being well-dressed in expensive clothing will make them appear rich but what people can really see is, you don't have any savings and you are running up your credit cards for the latest fashions.

Many people who dress in expensive clothing are really broke. A friend of mines asked me whether or not I feel funny wearing clothing that someone else wore and I told her that when you shop at the mall you are trying on clothes people have tried it on and also clothes that were worn and returned.  Even if you shop online, you will be buying clothes that probably was returned for one reason or another.

I understand that everybody has their own preference and I get it but, by the same token, don't chastise me for my frugal choices.  Some people get upset when they find out that wealthy people are shopping the thrift stores but I feel that there are enough clothes and goods to go around to anyone who wants to buy them.  It is a great way to recycle and support your community programs.

I say "don't knock it till you try it"  People are often amazed at what I find at thrift stores and if you take a look on YouTube you will see many fabulous, well dressed Diva's flaunting their thrift shop finds.  You can even find many designer handbags there and sometimes new items are there too.

You can shop at these stores and save money and plan a beautiful vacation for you and your family.
Be smart in everything that you do.

Dressing The Part? (Should You!)

Many years ago while growing up, I can remember Mom pressing me and my sister's hair and getting our clothes ready to go to church on Sunday Morning.  She took pride in the way our clothes look and all the mothers did the same to make sure that their kids look presentable to go to the Lords house.

In my teen years, there was a lot of emphasis on fashion and what you look like in those days and although I wasn't the best dress, a lot of people were.

When I was in my twenties, we would all go out and people would be dressed sharp to go to a club, restaurant, church, funeral and other events and you would really stand out like a sore thumb if you didn't.

Now, starting in the mid to late 1990's I noticed that people no longer got dressed up to go to church unless they were in their fifties or sixties and the kids would wear pants and regular items that they would wear to school.

I don't understand why things changed but in some instances, it was a good idea because people could go to church and other events and could be comfortable and without spending a lot of money, but, I also feel that young people these day's don't know what appropriate dress is.  There are a time and place for everything and I believe that it would be good for someone to teach young people how and what to wear for an interview and what to wear once you get a job because it is very important.

Many times people will receive a job or increase in pay based on their appearance.  Do I think it is fair  (No!) but this is just the way it is.  You are perceived by the way you look based on your hygiene and your appearance.

There may be times in your life where you may not have the money to buy the kind of clothes that you would like because of a loss of a job or etc. but, what you can do is start by buying some pieces in the same color such as pants and skirts and then add color with tops and plain shoes and after while you will build your wardrobe the way that you want it to be.

Create a uniform with your clothing so you will always have something nice to wear.

Dressing the part is important!

Top 6 Things I Am Thankful For.

Top 6 Things I Am Thankful For

I was sitting here tonight and thinking about the things that i am thankful for.  We take some things for granted but i just want to share my 6 things and hopefully you will think of some things that you are thankful for as well and leave them in the comment section.  We are in a new year and that means new beginnings for everyone.

Top 6 Things I Am Thankful For:

  1.  I am thankful to God for being faithful and showing me favor in my life.
  2. I am thankful for my family for being my rock and really standing by me.  When I think about the rough periods in my life, I can remember them always being there, ready to help and lend a helping hand.
  3.  I am so thankful for my Doctor who is very encouraging and did all that he could do in his power to treat my illnesses in such a way, as to give me hope and never treated me like just another patient.  This man is a Godsend and when one medicine didn't work, he immediately looked for other options to extend my life.
  4. I am thankful for wisdom that I have acquired in my older age.  If I had this mindset earlier, I could have avoided some pitfalls but it is better late than never.
  5. You all are going to laugh at me but here it is:  I am thankful for the thrift store because it gave me the opportunity to live within my means but also look nice.  This is a real blessing because it gives you ideas to create your own look and fashionable style and it is also a skill that you can teach to others.  It allowed me to save money and taught me about recycling and how important it is to keep things out of the landfills.
  6. I am thankful for freedom.  Things are not perfect in The United States Of America but changes have been made and to think back to where we have come from, I am so thankful. Please pray for peace on Earth!
